Sophia Rose's Nursery - Mumma Gets Creative

I don’t know about you but I had the best time creating Sophia’s Nursery. We had waited so long for our little angel to come along and I had done a lot of research in preparation…..perhaps a bit too much research!

I made a list of everything I wanted for our girl and estimated how much each item would cost to give me a rough budget. I began making a direct debit of $50 a week into a separate account to pay for this gorgeous room and low and behold I was actually given most of the items I was after by friends and family, lucky me!!

I wanted to create a space that was warm and cosy, girly and special and this is what I came up with.

We love love love our Stokke Mini Cot, it's like a little womb with a view!
The Bamboo Bombol Bouncer is a joy for miss Rosy, we love it's graceful bounce.
If you look closely you will see my nappy bag by Lois Vuitton, lucky Mumma!!!!
Love May wall stickers make this room. They are so sweet.
Sophia Loves her gorgeous FLATOUTbear, made of 100% sheepskin it's so snuggly.
This Crocheted Lace Rug by Hooked Design from Gallop Lifestyle is so pretty, maybe not so practical but oh so pretty!

Above the Stokke Mini Cot you will get a glimpse of my little creation. I wanted to make this mobile and fill it with love so my little girl would have something special to look at during nap time. Before each sleep I swish the little stars and love hearts and sing Dream a Little Dream by the Mamas and the Papas. She loves it so much and every time I sing she gets the biggest grin on her face, she knows that it means it's time to chill out and have a nap.

Mumma gets crafty again with 3 framed pics from one of our favourite Golden Books.
I love our drawers with change table, they are simple and clean looking. A great Ebay find at a great price.
I always thought would have a more stylish feeding chair but nothing beats comfort and this Babyhood Diva Glider rocks!
I love this storybook garland we made for my baby shower, we photocopied vintage books and sewed on pom poms.
I really love Maileg toys, they are Danish and so delightful. The piggies and monkey are so sweet.
We really love our handmade Bunny Lamp from Lark Made. Handmade in Germany it emits the softest light.

We picked up this wardrobe from Ebay, like the drawers it's simple and elegant
The little Puppy musical toy was mine when I was a baby, I love the fact that I can share it with my baby.
I absolutely adore these Baby Bloch ballet slippers, she is just growing out of them now at 12 weeks!
I love Gaia organic clothing, I bought this frock several years ago hoping one day I would have a daughter.
Check out the gorgeous little French shoes from Mamapapa, LOVE.

Most of the teddies, toys and books were also mine when I was a baby. Particularly special is Gumpy (top right), he looks a bit like a peanut but was my first soft toy and therefore Sophia's first stuffed toy too.
We love Sophie La Girafe, we bought one and were given an extra 2 as gifts! It' 100% natural rubber and perfectly safe to chew on when needed.
Youp-la is a gorgeous vintage French book from my store No.Five. Kewpie also came from No.Five, i have so much fun shopping for my shop.
I love Princess Scallywag's headbands, they are divine and an extra special accessory.

Previously on Durga Devi Dancing

DD had a baby shower, grew bigger and decorated the nursery. DD finished work, went shopping, grew bigger and decorated more of the nursery. DD meditated and practiced yoga daily, shopped online…..again then got even bigger! DD’s Grandmother passed away, DD gave birth after 30 hours of labor and a humungous tear. Welcome Sophia Rose weighing 8.5 pounds on the morning of 29th Feb. DD and Shanks are thrown into parenthood, DD’s father passes away, DD passes through grief to joy and back and forth again a few times over.

Fast forward to now and Sophia Rose is 12 weeks old and simply amazing, here are some pics of our gorgeous bundle of joy.

Welcome

Hello my name is Durga Devi and I am currently pregnant with my first child to my husband Shankara. We are both spiritual aspirants and work with an organisation called Shanti Mission. We are also both energetic healers, spiritual teachers and musicians. My work life is more nourishing and satisfying than even I can imagine. I work one on one with clients to help them through life’s challenges, I work on an emotional level, with people’s thoughts and beliefs, their chakras and their soul.  I have clients from all over the world who come and see me either in person or via Skype and I find it hugely rewarding.

I teach a program called Ignite Your Spirit Therapist Training, for spiritual aspirants who have already done a lot of inner work and want to assist other people through the modality of energy healing. The program itself is an intense journey of self-development for both the students and teachers!!

I am also a singer, I have been singing many different styles of music from an early age and my singing now is purely focussed on sacred and transformational music. Shankara and I take ancient chants from a myriad of faiths including Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism & Sikhism and we make them new again. Much of my passion lies within the authentic self-expression of singing and I love holding a space to help others achieve that as well. I am so lucky to have a husband who is world-class musician and composer to support and be apart of this process. Shankara is a trained jazz double bass and electric bass player, he studied with Ron Carter in New York (Miles Davis’s bass player) and has travelled the world playing music with many of the globes greats. Together we have found that our skills can be channelled into music that uplifts and benefits humanity more than anything else we have done so far.

I love meditating and keeping in touch with that Divine part of myself but I am a householder as well and so it is important for me to be grounded in the spiritual work I do. I strive to cultivate more peace within myself and from there within humanity but I know that in doing so it doesn’t serve anyone if I’m airy fairy with it all, so I like to make it practical.

The thing about me is that I love to dance, I have so many different things that I love doing. Even though I live a very active spiritual life, I also love fashion and shopping, I am inspired by beautiful things and so it suits my personality well to have my own boutique with my mum, Eleni in Port Douglas, Queensland. Our store is called No.Five (Number Five) and it is full of everything we love, namely gorgeous Australian designed fashion that you wont usually spot on all the runways. I am the buyer for No.Five and it truly fulfils a creative passion where I can mix colour and design to inspire people to dress for themselves as oppose to dressing to please others.

So with this blog my aim is to have a platform for all of the unique adventures that I get up to, I will share with you practical spiritual tips for cultivating more peace within your own life, I will show you into my world of recording beautiful music and then the next day I will take you on a buying trip for my store as we stock up on lots of gorgeous new frocks. I will also share with you my biggest focus at the moment, which is all things BABY, I just can’t get enough!!

I hope you like this blog it is my way of connecting with you and documenting and recognising the divine adventurer that is within all of us.
